Avera
St. Anthony’s Hospital’s sleep lab is located in a house adjacent to the
hospital that is quiet, comfortable for all sleep study needs.
A positive sleep experience begins with a warm welcome
from the staff that schedules and performs the study. Our registered
technician records data for optimal and accurate results using up to date
technology including sensors, electrodes, microphones, oximeters and
respiratory belts. These monitor brain activity, heart rhythms, snoring,
breathing and leg, arm, eye and chin movements. If sleep apnea is detected,
a trial of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is performed.
The
data collected is sent to be scored by a registered polysomnographic
technician and is further analyzed by a sleep medicine physician who sends a
final report to the ordering physician.
The home-like setting includes a deluxe bedroom suite
with private bathroom and shower facilities. A large caretaker or guest room
is also available if necessary. A Tempur-Pedic mattress and Serta Perfect
Position III adjustable sleep system are used. TVs with DVD players are in
each room for educational video viewing. A light meal is available, if
desired, after the study is completed.
Sleep Disorders
Quality sleep is important to your health! There is
evidence that sleep disturbances and deprivation may contribute to
hypertension, stroke, heart disease, memory and coordination loss, mood
disorder, obesity and diabetes. Recent data suggests sleep disorders,
especially sleep apnea, can be hereditary. For improved rest and good
health, talk to your physician about your sleep.
